October 11, 2024 — The Stewardship Action Foundation (SAF) is pleased to announce the addition of two esteemed leaders in the waste management and recycling sectors to its Board of Directors. Courtney Scott, Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Program Manager at Zero Waste Sonoma, and Ted Horton, Deputy Director for Austin Resource Recovery, bring their wealth of expertise and passion for environmental stewardship to help further SAF’s mission of advancing the equitable, circular economy in the United States.
Courtney Scott has been at the forefront of household hazardous waste management for 12 years, beginning her career with the San Rafael Fire Department and managing the HHW, e-waste, and solar panel programs for Zero Waste Sonoma since 2016. Known for her dedication and leadership, Courtney was recently recognized by the North Bay Business Journal as one of their “Forty Under 40” for 2024. She is actively involved in the creation of a second HHW facility in Sonoma County and lead efforts alongside the National Stewardship Action Council and Zero Waste Sonoma with SB 1066 (Blakespear), the Marine Flare Producer Responsibility Act.

Ted Horton, Deputy Director for Austin Resource Recovery, has spent the last two decades in both public and private sectors, specializing in large-scale recycling and solid waste operations. His leadership has driven substantial capital investments and transformative projects across the U.S. Ted holds an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from Rutgers University. His commitment to organizational growth and community service is an asset to SAF’s ongoing initiatives.

Courtney and Ted will join the existing board members in guiding the foundation's strategic initiatives and expanding its impact in educating for a circular economy.
The SAF team continues to be thought leaders and keynote speakers at conferences around the world and has led and facilitated multiple policy maker study trips internationally to advance the understanding of how the United States can achieve an equitable, circular economy.
